Art Therapy in Ventura for Couples, Families, and those Seeking Holistic Approaches to Mental Health

If "Art Therapy" resonates with the therapeutic approach that you are looking for, you may be curious about how our agency views its significance and applies Art Therapy to your treatment plan.

“Motivation” - Collage in Art Therapy can be a therapeutic way to allow clients to kinesthetically find the words and images that relay their emotions in individual and group settings.

Heart Theory Inc. was developed emphasizing the Creative Element that is needed when we struggle with "feeling stuck," or “frozen.” In collaboration with a safe and nonjudgmental clinician, we help you approach your problem story with a creative perspective and aim to motivate you towards curiosity and intention through your journey.

At times when clients become more reactive to their own cycling thoughts and talk therapy becomes a trigger to the process of healing, we may redirect you towards nonverbal communication through the artwork. "I'm not a good artist," is the most common response we initially receive. It turns out,  clients become aware of their past where they did not receive nurturance towards their creative capacities.

Sessions are always viewed through an art therapy lens, whether or not clients create artwork. Unless highly recommeded and agreed upon by the Clinical treatment team, the client and therapist communicate through the therapeutic process the utilization of Art Therapy in sessions.

Our agency is a unique group practice as we are diverse agency that offers our personal and clinical knowledge. Our agency culture prioritizes self care practices, the Use of Self in rapport building, and honoring the therapeutic alliance.

We offer a wide array of expertise for clients that can waiver from low to moderate symptoms to moderate to severe symptoms. When clients are in need of further assistance beyond an individual therapist, we actively collaborate with the treatment team (outside psychiatrists, medical professionals, and school/educational staff for children and young adults).

Energy” - Art Therapy in a Classroom Interactive Multimedia Mandala, Fairburn Avenue Elementary School to exemplify the engagement of children when creativity becomes a part of the healing process.

If you have been in therapy in the past and are looking for a clinician that will challenge you, we aim to achieve insight and awareness in each session that you can take forward through the week and practice. If this is the first time reaching out to a therapist, we aim to be sensitive towards your entry into this new milestone and acknowledge the courage it took to find us.

“Pair” - Watercolor for Couples / Marriage Counseling depicting the essential need to imprint each partner’s unique qualities and colors to shine within the relationship. Couples and marriage counseling instills hope, new boundary setting, and reflections of past traumas that impact the present relationship.

Couples and Marriage Counseling can benefit couples that are wanting to go deeper in their relationships. Couples counseling can also help reset intentions and create a deeper sense of meaning in the bonds that are held.

With the challenges of Covid-19 and environmental flare-ups, deep-rooted fears and doubts begin to arise and show up (or intensify) in relationships. We design couples therapy with emotionality, neutrality, honesty, and transparency. When time is needed to reach personal and couples goals, we help navigate the problem stories without judgment or biases. For more information please click here.

“Family Therapy”" - Watercolor expressing the colorful dynamics that come about in family therapy. It is essential to come together and reset values and narratives when circumstances and unforeseen challenges impact the family system.

Family Therapy is conducted when therapists or treatment teams recommend us to work with the entire family, or the members who have the capacity to join. Generally individual clients have been working on their personal therapeutic goals, and work towards inviting other family members to work together in collaborative goals, and to create solutions for challenges that are occurring.

Family therapy can also be recommended within our agency and we may refer you to one of our clinicians at Heart Theory Inc. to work as your dedicated family therapist. For more, please click here.

"She has the perfect amount of wisdom, affirmation, listening and gentle prompting questions so that you share more... Lauren is incredible at what she does. Dr. Anna was on the mark when she recommended I work with Lauren.

For this I couldn't be more grateful! She has the perfect amount of wisdom, affirmation, listening and gentle prompting questions so that you share more. She is living her gift and I look forward to working with Lauren so that the hard stuff feels just a little easier. Also, I wasn't sure if my insurance would be accepted, so Dr. Anna Cho handled it behind the scenes and I'm now very happily paying an affordable copay. So grateful for Heart Theory!” - Testimonial by NH

Mental Health Counseling

“Individual Counseling” - Watercolor Digital Media for Individual Therapy to symbolize the impact of mindfulness, eco-based, holistic therapy and its effectiveness in mental health counseling

Individual mental health counseling can seem intimidating at first, but many of our clients wonder why they did not seek a therapist earlier in their lives.

Sometimes clients are referred to us from a treatment center or an intensive outpatient facility; we provide services for individuals who may step up into more intensive care and need to prepare, or those who are stepping down from intensive care.

We are extremely mindful of your symptoms and narratives and also aim to understand your history so that you are aware of your mental health status and the approaches we are using.

“Wishes” - Watercolor for Addiction Counseling to depict the need behind addiction

Addiction comes in many forms and co-occurs with a variety of other diagnostic impressions.

In addiction counseling, we aim to understand your story, emotional history, and take a needs assessment rather than solely focus on behavioral and cognitive realms of addiction.

We take a trauma-inventory through our sessions together and foster a deeper understanding of who you are and what brought you to this junction. For more information please click here.

ADHD Support Counseling for Adults & Children

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder line scribble drawing to depict the layers of impact if not viewed with a preventive perspective; affecting children and adults

Mia’s methods are both compassionate and effective, creating a safe and nurturing environment for Jai to explore and understand his emotions. The strategies and tools provided have been instrumental in fostering positive changes not only at home but also in social and educational settings…

I am particularly grateful for Mia’s dedication to collaborating with us as parents, ensuring we were equipped to support Jai's growth outside of therapy sessions. Her ability to connect with young children and their families is truly exceptional.

For anyone seeking services to support a child's emotional and behavioral development, I cannot recommend Mia highly enough. Her work has had a profound impact on our family, and I am confident she will continue to make a difference in the lives of many others.” - Father of J

Online Therapy (Virtual / Telehealth)

“Virtual Therapy” - Collage for Telehealth / Virtual Therapy

Heart Theory Inc. was solely in-person in 2017 when it launched. In 2020 we had to redirect our clinical expertise to be efficient and sustainable virtually through the transitions of the Covid-19 pandemic. Since then, we have been able to successfully achieve the essential values of therapy without hindering the client progress.

We serve the state of California and have some in-person offerings in Ventura County, California. For more information please click here.

“Peace” - Watercolor for Non-violent Communication

Domestic Violence is not the reason clients initially look for therapy. However, emotional, financial, verbal and physical abuse has been on the rise since the 2020 pandemic.

Our clinicians help to advocate for your rights when communication becomes toxic or violent. It is always a priority to be prepared and aware of how emotions can escalate into a physical and dangerous situation.

If you are in need of emergency assistance, please call 911 and click here for more information on Domestic Violence and protecting children from its impact.
